Perth Food Review

W e recently visited this place to try it out, as it had taken over a Japanese restaurant, which had good food, but slightly overpriced. Anyway, since it took over a restaurant nearby we felt we had this "responsibility" to sample the food. =)

Anyway, let me say firstly that it's just a small place, seating maybe about 20 inside and less then 10 outside. It was just nice though, not stuffy or uncomfortable. We've been here only for coffee once before, and the service was good.

When we stepped in for the restaurant, we were ignored for a while, but the wait staff seemed pretty busy so we just waited for a while. When we were seated, it took quite some time to even get the menus. The table next to us was an Italian family of about 9 or 10 people, and they seemed to be related to the staff and got "extra special care and attention". Finally we got our menus and we ordered.

We started off with some garlic bread and creamy garlic prawns, which was not the best on my list, but it was pretty damn good. After that we had to wait for about 15 minutes or so for the mains to arrive. I ordered the Pollo con Funghi, I think, which was 2 pieces of chicken breast, served with a roasted potato and mixed vegetables. My brother ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara. The chicken was tender and well cooked and the sauce was well prepared to go with it. The carbonara was not too creamy either and simply sumptuous.

The service was a bit of a letdown this time. We had nothing to complain about the meals, however, when we needed more drinks or an extra napkin, we were successfully ignored for a while before being noticed. I can understand acknowledging your regulars, but not to the point of ignoring other customers. Then again, bad experiences while dining out is bound to happen once or twice, not back to back certainly. The good food is a good reason for us to come back and hopefully then service will have improved.
