Perth Food Review

A t last... unpretentious, flavoursome, well-presented food at a reasonable price. We have been so disappointed by Perth restaurants, we've almost stopped going out - preferring our own humble attempts at good cuisine. But Vans is different: quality ingredients, innovative combinations, rich and satisfying flavours, excellent presentation. I had the pork fillet on saffron-flavoured mash and fennel - abolute heaven, exquisite flavours and textures - I wanted it to last forever. My husband chose the fillet steak with sweet potato, greens, roasted tomatoes and garlic gloves. He said it was the first time the accompaniment was tastier and more interesting than the fillet (which was excellent in its own right). He wanted bread to mop up the mustard-infused jus but I told him not to be so crass. He then proceeded to lick his plate!
The variety of desserts was limited (two on the menu!) but the one we tried - mango jelly with lime sorbet - was excellent. Light and not too sweet.
Service was a little stretched - Vans could do with a few extras so customers are not left waiting for too long. But when the food is this good you don't really mind.
