I f you are looking for a funky little place that doesn't pretend to be anything it aint except a small little cafe-style joint dishing out "not your average" and reasonably priced chinese food then...
The Red Teapot is worth making a phone call (as just turning up may leave you disappointed - this place gets busy and seems popular with groups).

While servings are on the smaller side the bonus of this is that the prices allow you to sample more.

Reccommended for starters is the chili & garlic squid tentacles (they do a chilli and garlic tofu as well) - the vegetarian dummplings weren't bad either (beautiful pastry).

For mains the crispy skinned chicken is just that (and incredibly moist too) and I don't know what is in the dipping sauce but it works and certainly suggests this is not your sweet & sour kinda place.

Service is polite and rushed but seemingly happy to help.

Bottom line for 2 (2 entrees, 2 mains, and rice) = $37.00

oh, and don't forget to bring a couple of cold beers with you - BYO all alcohol.

If you really like the tentacles try the Penang on William St. (near Roe st) they also do great tentacles.
