e dined at the Loose Box in a group of four last weekend and were generally very
impressed. The food is, as always, beautiful traditional French fare.
I had the Duck à l’Orange for entrée which was flavoursome yet delicate and then the Venison with roasted pear, truffle mashed potato and macerated cherry sauce for main. This was the highlight of my meal and was probably one of the best dishes of the night. Others on our table had beef cheeks (a special on the night) and the fish of the day which was salmon served in a champagne sauce. I think it pays to be a little adventurous at this restaurant as you are pretty much guaranteed a good meal and while you can get a pretty good steak etc anywhere, fantastic venison or the like is a little harder to come by - so make the most of the award winning chef here, is my advice.
Chocolate crepes were the highlight of desert and I was quite jealous that I didn’t order them as well after I tasted my partners, my apple tart was nice but very rich for the end of a four course meal.
Service was good however I remember it as more professional and attentive from previous visits. Apparently the prices have come down at the loose box so perhaps this is where they are making their saving. Still nothing to complain about really – still a very good restaurant choice for a special night out.
