W e went to the Fishy Affair early on a weekday so got seats easily, as the restaurant was mostly empty at that time. The guy at the front said that it would fill up fast, and indeed many people arrived as we were having our meal.

I ordered the Bouillabaise. It's a French seafood stew and the Fishy Affair's version had half a lobster, a Morton Bay Bug, 2 yabbies, many prawns, squids, scallops and fish pieces in a thick tomato based stew. Shortly after ordering it I saw one of the cooks fish out a lobster from the tank, so I'm sure it was fresh. All the various seafoods in it were cooked just right, and in the tasty stew the result was absolutely delicious! It came in a large clay pot, and was so generous that I needed my partner to help me finish the dish. However, it was one of the most expensive dishes on their menu ($39.50), but the taste and size of the dish made for it, and therefore good value.

My partner had the New Zealand flounder ($30). This was baked, and came with a side of either wedges or roast potatoes (we had the wedges). It was done just right, although a bit too oily. What let it down was the lemon sauce on it, which was bitter. I've never tasted a bitter sauce before and had to eat lots of the accompanying wedges in between to clean out the taste from my mouth. The flounder was quite large, and so was the helping of wedges. It would have been a good dish had it not been let down by the bitter tasting sauce.

If you do go to the Fishy Affair, do try the Bouillabaise. In fact, have an entree, and share it between two people - it's big enough!

The service was fast, but as another reviewer had pointed out, the waitress just came up to us and said "ready?" without even a "hello". When we said we needed a few minutes to think about it, she literally came back in a few minutes and said "ready?" again. After shooing her off she didn't come back and we had to flag down another waitress to order...all a bit strange and I would recommend the restaurant give their waitresses some tips on serving customers.

The atmosphere was acceptable, but the table a bit too close to each other - but then again, many other restaurants do the same and it's a matter of personal preference.

Great review Bill.

I tried the Bouillabaise on your recommendation and it was fantastic.

Our food was disgusting. We had the special of the day (Barramundi Cordon Bleu) which the waitress initially couldnt describe. The fish arrived raw. No taste. Thick piece of "ham" ...[more]
