W e visited the classic seafood restaurant, The Fishy Affair, on Valentine’s night and as you would expect it was quite busy. Never-the-less we were seen to promptly by the hostess who had a little difficulty seating us. Initially we were shown to a table that was crowded so much by the tables surrounding, it was impossible to pull the chairs out to sit down. Second try and we were sat at a table that had been situated in what looked like a passage way. After asking to be moved to a nicer table because it seemed like we were sitting in the main thoroughfare to the toilets the understanding hostess moved us to our final resting place for the night inside the main restaurant.

I thought the service throughout the night was lacking from this point on. After sitting for a while before being offered a drink we met out waitress who greeted us with a “ready?” no “hello” or “how are you” just “ready?”. We ordered from the set menu the seafood platter to share and cheesecake for desert. The food arrived in a reasonable time, and was as you would expect at a specialty seafood restaurant prepared to a high standard. It consisted of delicious calamari, cooked to perfection, deep fried fish, snapper in lemon butter, garlic prawns that rivaled the Witches Caldron (the home of garlic prawns), chili mussels, whitebait, cold prawns and scampi, oysters Kilpatrick and chips. The platter was delicious and an incredibly generous serve for two, which was lucky, as we were told shortly after we finished that they had run out of both deserts that were on the set menu. Instead we could have ice cream or sticky date pudding. We choose the ice cream which was a little disappointing as it was like your regular Paul’s variety readily available from your local supermarket.

Overall I think the service did let the food down a little during the night. However due to the vibrant atmosphere of Northbridge that continues into the nicely appointed restaurant and lovely seafood we still managed to enjoy our evening.

my last experience of this restaurant was not a pleasant one.
I took friends who had flown in from the UK and were only in Perth for 3 days to Fishy Affair.
I had eaten there previously and enjoyed the evening.
However, the 2/2/08 was probably the most embarassing time I have ever had.
After singing the praises of the restaurant my friends were looking to a fresh seafood meal but ended up having to eat beef.
To start with when we were seated the waiter left and ignored us for 20 minutes, only after I personally walked to the bar asking for drinks did the barmaid summon someone to assist us.
We asked the waiter what the specials were, only to be told, "it's my first day, I do not know"

On ordering 3 out of for fish courses that we ordered were not available, and basically the only thing available in what is supposed to be one of Perth's premier fish restaurants was beef.

Given that we were hungry, obviously we ordered this and it duly arrived a lump of beef with a slice of something,,, hard to describe, hard tasteless and inedible. However, no side dishes of vegetables were served.

If this was not bad enough my friends attempted to pay for the meal using their Australian Dollar travellers cheques only to be refused.
I eventually paid on my visa card, not only did I 'not' receive a discount for poor service, I actually got charged a 2% surcharge for paying with a card.

Be warned this restaurant is not what it used to be. They appear to have no interest in customer service and the food is not good enough for the prices they are charging.

They do not even reply to emails, so there is little point in complaining, they do not seem to care.
