U sually when I find a great restaurant tucked away in an almost-secret spot, I don’t tell anyone. I want to keep it to myself, just in case it gets too popular and I can’t get a table. But this time, I believe that owners Robert and Sri deserve every opportunity for success. Sweet Java, as the name suggests, serves Indonesian cuisine. The décor feels traditional; Robert tells me that he’s tried to replicate a typical restaurant that you’d find in the hills in Indonesia. The menu too is authentic. While you may not be spoiled for choice, the standard of the food beats expectations. Serving dishes like laksa, fried rice, tender grilled chicken, spicy curries, and probably the best satay I’ve tasted, it’s a great place to experiment and try something a bit different. At around $10 for a main, it’s excellent value for money too. Informal and very, very relaxed, you feel more like friends than customers when you go for dinner to Sweet Java.
