W e’ve been having some un-seasonal weather recently and we decided to head into Subiaco on this nice sunny winter day. It was my first time actually sitting down to eat at the Subiaco hotel, but I have heard many good things from lots of people. I ordered the Fish & Chips & my partner ordered the Green Vegetable Risotto with Tiger Prawns and a Basil Pesto. The fish and chips were excellent, but were definitely overshadowed by the prawns. I would have to say that the dish was absolutely perfect for the location and weather. We enjoyed our lunch outside on Hay St, while having a few middies of Heineken and watching the world go by. To the dismay of the farmers I hope this weather continues so we can enjoy more lunches like this.

Three of us dined at the Subi Hotel on Saturday night, before going to see Dame Edna at the Regal. We had three waitstaff attend to us throughout the evening and they were all very professional and asked us if we were going to the show, so we felt relaxed that our meal would arrive in plenty of time. Two of us ordered the slow cooked duck on a parsnip mash/puree and it was divine! The menus were very impressive and the wine list reasonably priced. Overall a very enjoyable experience and the restaurant was buzzing, even between 6pm - 8pm on a Sat. night.

I visited the Subi Hotel for lunch with a friend a few weeks ago after hearing it recommended by others.

We were offered a outdoor table facing Hay St. The service was good and the wait staff were attentive but not overly-so which was a relief, as we ordered our drinks.

For starters we ordered the Turkish bread with dips which we thought was a good way to start. For mains I ordered fish and chips and my friend ordered the Aged Porterhouse.

This is where it all started to falter somewhat; after about 20 minutes of having finished the starters, the wait staff came around and asked if we'd like the mains to be cooked...we were a little taken aback at the question (seeing as it had been almost half an hour since the starters were served).

When the mains finally did arrive we found that while they were not a complete flop, they were definitely lacking.

My friend's Porterhouse cut looked small for the price ($34), a narrow cut of meat, with only minimal sides and the béarnaise sauce was probably a teaspoon's worth plopped atop the cut almost as an afterthought. My fish and chips were OK, but not exactly what I was expecting for the price I paid; the fish seemed to be a average-quality crumbed job and wasn't exactly as fresh or succulent as I felt it could be.

Overall, an 'OK' eating experience, though I wouldn't recommend eating here if especially you're a little pressed for time; we were hoping to have lunch done in an hour but by the end of it all we had been out of the office for a full hour and a half; and this was without ordering any coffee or desserts.

In closing I'd say the Subi Hotel isn't a bad place to do lunch (and dinner, though I haven't yet had that experience), but I'd say a tad overpriced for the quality of food and the service is certainly more a 'lazy man's affair'.

I probably wouldn't eat here again considering the-value-for-money aspect.
