Perth Food Review

S alt on the Beach proved to be quite a disappointment. For her birthday my daughter chose this retaurant because she had heard some good things about it. We booked for a Sunday evening.

The restaurant was not crowded (about 4 or 5 tables were occupied). We had the bad taste to arrive about 15 mins late and the reception we received lead me to believe that we were not expected. We were told to "wait over there" while the waiter decided which of the many empty tables it suited her for us to occupy.

The food was a bit of a mixed bag. My roast lamb rump was flavoursome and tender but the 'puy lentil braise' in which it was floating was quite uninteresting. The few beans that accompanied the lamb were under-cooked and looked quite lonely on such a large plate. On my side dish of 'buttered vegetables', the aforementioned crunchy beans made a re-appearance alongside a couple of chunks of equally chewy bok choi. Not very interesting at all.

My daughter's seafood stew at $34.00 was such a niggardly offering that I'm surprised the restaurant has got the effrontery to put it on the menu at all. Her partner received the wrong dish, but after taking a look at what constituted the 'seafood stew' that he too had ordered, decided to take a chance on what he had been dished up - a pepper squid, I believe. Someone else must have been saddled with the 'seafood stew'.

Deserts were pretty and enjoyable but minute.

After a sumptuous meal such as this, could we have coffee? Sorry, we've cleaned the coffee machine, no coffee for you! The website says 'Sundays - 8am til late'. 9:50pm is late?? When I mentioned our disappointment about this, all I got was a blank stare from the person who was raiding our credit cards. Needless to say this was one gastronomic misadventure that none of us is keen to repeat.

Pity we were there at night. We couldn't even enjoy the sea view!
