or those curious about the name of this new Cafe, I am reliably informed, and no doubt “Trekies” will already know, it is a close approximation to the Klingon word for Coffee. Raktacino, located at 16 Letchworth Avenue, Salter Point, has been open for five weeks and serves mainly wood fired pizzas, some pastas and has a good looking range of desserts. We went on a work function with 25 people, so it was a challenge to the chef who certainly rose to the occasion with all ten mains on my table being served within a few minutes.
The thin crust style pizzas vary from $16-50 to $20 and my $20 Liguria (king prawns bocconcini, prosciutto and parsley) was excellent and a generous serve. If you plan on having a dessert, I suggest you ignore the very tasty pumpkin bread that is served whilst you wait for your main. The general reaction around the table was very favourable. I did not try a dessert but those who did were impressed with the various cheesecakes and chocolate offerings.
The owners of Raktacino have a huge amount of experience in the hospitality industry and are very customer focused. If you live in the Salter Point area and are looking for a genuine wood fired pizza in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, I strongly recommend you give it a try.
