e decided to have a quick meal at Pho Xua our local Vietnamese restaurant after having cravings for their Yellow Chicken Curry whilst they were closed over Christmas and New Year.
The service at Pho Xua is always patchy at best and we’ve come to not expect too much in this regard as the food always makes up for anything the service lacks. It is BYO so we are always happy enough to just open our bottle of wine and have a drink while we wait to be served.
Unfortunately though, on our last visit the food was really average. We always order the Yellow Chicken Curry so have a good grounds to compare. Ordinarily this dish is a lovely creamy aromatic curry however on this occasion it was oily, the sauce was split and lacked flavour. The other dishes we ordered were the Fishcakes, which we yum and the Lemongrass and Chilli Squid which sadly was overcooked, the squid was so tough that we left a good portion of it.
I’m really disappointed that the standards seemed to have dropped because this was our favourite local for a cheap-eat (mains approx $13 - $18). We’ll give it another go though, perhaps being their first week back they just had a bit of a rocky start to the New Year.
