W e were in the mood for some fine dining and we hadn’t made a reservation and it was 5:30pm on a Sunday. You might have thought we were in trouble and would be eating pizza at 10pm after calling everywhere in Perth. A last minute tip came through to try Opus at the Richardson, the call was made and the booking was secured for 7:30pm.

The ambiance was exactly what we were looking for, lavish surroundings and professional service. There were four of us and one in our party was pregnant. It was absolutely amazing the level of service that we experienced all night. We received a complementary amuse bouche (literally translates to "mouth amuser") of marinated beef and mushroom, served rare. Our waitperson picked up that this was probably not suitable for a pregnant woman and we received an additional complementary serving of marinated vegetables with micro herbs. It was also good to see complementary bread and butter and olive oil being offered around.

Everyone decided to go for main course and leave room for desert, skipping entre. I started with a refreshing beer and then moved on to a superb bottle of merlot that was chosen for the table from the ample wine list. The main courses consisted of Char-Grilled Stockyard Beef Tenderloin and Braised Beef Cheek Ravioli with Forrest Mushroom Sauce, Roast White Rabbit Loin & Braised Leg with Carrot, Muscatels and Quince Jus, and two dishes from the grill, the Rib Eye and the Tenderloin. The meat was cooked very close to everyone’s liking, but any mistake was forgiven as everyone agreed the taste and tenderness was great.

The deserts ordered were a parfait and two chocolate trios of white chocolate ice cream, a tart and a rich shot of hot chocolate. I opted for a port to round off the night and made a sizeable contribution to consuming the complementary petits fours. The deserts were very enjoyable and rounded off the evening nicely. The only complaint all night was that a recommendation by our waitperson of a Late Pick Riesling to go with the parfait was a bit off.

The one element that made this evening so successful was the service, we couldn’t believe we were still in Perth and I doubt you would find more professional polite service anywhere else. The food was excellent, there are better places to eat if you compare the food and the price alone, but for a holistic dining experience there are very few places in Perth like this. It certainly scratched our itch for a luxurious dining experience.

Sounds good, I remember a friend telling me about this place sometime ago when it opened...

Good to see the standard hasn't dropped at all..
