G reat atmosphere but budget food and service. I had a hair in my dinner baked into the cheese. When pulling it out with an awful look on my face the waitress looked over and when she saw it wes a hair she turned back around pretending she hadn't seen. I felt ill eating the rest of my meal which was overcooked and very fatty. When another waitress collected the plates I told her about the hair. She replyed with 'that's no good'. No appology and didn't say she was going to let the chef or kitchen staff know. Awful experience and would not recommend this venue to anyone.

Let me see if I understand this. You saw the hair, you pulled it out, YOU THEN PROCEEDED TO EAT THE MEAL, then you mentioned something to a waitress?!? Do I understand this correctly?
Wow, you've sure got something going on there.

I would have lost my appetite as soon as I saw that hair.. Probably would have sent it back with it still attached...

From the other reviews it doesn't say much about this particular establishment.. Guess budget food sometimes comes with the possibility of "extra" ingredients..

I have to agree with you there Chimera, but Nicholsons isnt that cheap. Your paying up to $36 for a steak with an average of $25 for other mains. It seems that some pubs just cant move away from the pub grub affair that has been associted with them for so long. Taking advantage of drunks is just not on :)

Well - I have finally been now. Just came back in fact.
I can confirm that:
1. You still have no credit card or EFTPOS facilites - pretty rubbish in this day and age. They do, however, have an ATM at the establishment. I didn't bother checking to see what the fee was.
2. It still serves your typical pub grub style food - although a little more upmarket than your typical traditional pub style
3. The servings are still generous.
4. The quality is still not all that flash
5. The atmosphere is actually not bad. I thought it kinda interesting. It seems this place equates to a nice night out for a certain type of Canning Valian. I saw several girls in cocktail dresses and thongs - all set for a fancy meal at a classy establishment like Nicholsons.
6. I agree with Cross - I'd say the value was not bad, but not that great. I ordered the ribs at $32 - they were ok but not fantastic. The price I think is somewhat comparable to Tony Roma (haven't been for 2 years) - but the ribs at Nicholsons were not even in the same carnivorous universe as the delectable Tony Roma. In fact, just thinking about it has started my salivary glands - we should have gone into the city instead!
