M atilda's Cafe & Pizzeria in East Victoria Park has the appearance of a cosy Italian trattoria. Sadly, the food comes nowhere near this standard. A starter of arrancini - deep fried balls of risotto filled with peas and mozzarella - looked pretty enough, but what should have been a centre of gooey, melted cheese was cool and clearly undercooked. The lamb cutlets were tough and overcooked, and came with mash instead of the advertised rosemary potatoes. And the saltimbocca was simply an embarrasment, with leathery veal, burnt prosciutto and a tasteless sauce. A side order of vegetables turned out to be unneccessary, despite specifically asking what accompanied the mains. We ended up with 3 lots of identical vegetables. Over $70 for this? I think not.
