O ver the weekend a friend and I had lunch at Marconi cafe on South Terrace in Fremantle. Although I've lived in Freo for a couple of years now and am definitely a regular, I can't ever remember going into Marconi's for anything other than a simple coffee. So my friend and I decided to check out what they offered in the way of good nosh.

And we weren't dissapointed. The menu is quite extensive for a small cafe, and they serve the full gambit of brekky, lunch, dinner and anything in between. I ended up going simple with a grilled focaccia with chicken, tomato and fetta cheese, although you can choose your own mix of fillings. It tasted divine and wasn't too small, too overpacked, or soggy like they sometimes get. All in all, I was very happy with what I got, which also came with wedges and a small side salad for around $12, which I considered to be a quite reasonable price.

My friend was also suitably impressed with her bruschetta, claiming it was the best she'd had in ages, even despite the fact that she is not even a huge fan of tomato! That came in a large serving and looked very tempting from where I was sitting.

And we topped it all off with an inexpensive but nice bottle of the Marconi house special chardonnay, which cost around $20 per bottle, although I think they also have BYO facilities.

My only gripe of the place would have been the rather slow service we received. However, being located right on Freo's "cappucino strip" means this place is always seemingly packed and busy. We were glad to actually get a table, although all of the outside ones are almost constantly occupied. The cafe itself is quite small, and can tend to get a little crowded and noisy inside, but apart from these small gripes, it was all good!

I'll definitely be going back soon, if only to try some of the best looking lemon merangue pie I've ever seen!

What does everyone else think about Marconi's?

I Think Marconi's has the best coffee on the strip, the foods good to and it is one of the few cafe's that still do table service
