W e were out to celebrate a birthday, and what better place to do it than this cosy setting. Harvest is tucked away next to the wheeties factory in North Fremantle, and has been fashioned out of an old house.

I had heard great things about this place and can happily say that they are very true. Sitting at our table of six was one of the Chefs who gave us an insight into the Head Chef's mentality and attitude in the kitchen. He explained everything must be cooked to perfection, and no compromise is made to save time.

The menu was presented on a plain A4 piece of paper, no frills or decoration, just line after line of mouth watering dishes. Apparently the menu changes often to take full advantage of what is in season, and to give patrons a taste of a range of dishes that are within the establishments capabilities. This reminded me of the River Cafe in London who change their menu daily.

For entrée I had the seared scallops which were served with a large lightly spiced leek tortellini, confit shallot and saffron dressing. They were done so simply and cooked to perfection, which really brought out the natural sweetness in the meat. Another entrée that featured at the table which I did get a taste of was the quail. I can't remember exactly how it was done, but it was tender and flavoursome.

Five out of the six of us had the same main course, and I can say it was cooked perfectly. The dish was medium rare beef sirloin with mustard mash, slow cooked baby onions and garlic roasted field mushrooms.

I thoroughly enjoyed the night out at Harvest and recommend it to anyone who enjoys really good food.

I've read that Harvest has very recently changed hands with a young new chef, who's supposed to be up and coming. Has anyone been there since?

I Don't know about the change of hands, but I think the chef you are talking about is Giles, he's only 20. They often have items on the menu with his name in it, for example "Giles' Duck Pie".
