aving been to Halo many times I was suprised on this visit with a table of 6 to be virtually ignored by the serving staff. After 40 minutes without ordering entrees our complaint was almost brushed off with the excuse they were one staff member short, this from the manager.
After this rocky start we proceeded to have a superb meal with our waitress being exceptionally friendly and helpful.
Our entrees of grilled Manjimup marron, salt and pepper squid and crispy skinned quail were without comparison. The marron was cooked beautifully, the squid was tender and the boned quail was delicious. The main courses of confit duck leg with foie gras, braised beef and caremilsed onion suet pudding and salt crusted rib-eye were all delicious with the duck and braised beef both receiving rave comments.
Topping this off with deserts of rhubarb bakewell tart, halo icecream and affogato was the perfect way to end a long lunch accompanied by plenty of Villa Maria Sem Sav Blanc.
The river setting and a beautiful sunny day made for what was generally considered one of the best meals to be had in Perth. The food, service and atmosphere of this cafe restaurant are definately on a par with Cream, with the added advantage of being open for lunch.
