W e have just come back from my sister-in-law’s birthday dinner. I have been meaning to try Halu for some time now, basically ever since Yahachi closed its doors.

The interior is finished nicely and the atmosphere is pleasant. We had a large table so they warned us that the main courses would not come out all together but they would do their best. Everyone shared the sashimi plate for entrée, and I must say it was absolutely superb. Honestly the best I have had in Perth since returning from Japan. The salmon was creamy, the tuna was tender and the kingfish was particularly good. Everyone had miso and rice and chose a dish for main course. Every main course was beautifully presented and prepared. The dishes are not huge but they are packed full of flavor. We sampled some duck, salmon, pork, wagyu tataki and lamb. For desert we tried the green tea ice cream, which is always a hit, and the chocolate parfait. The parfait was really nice it was a concoction of coca bubble type things, cream, vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce and a few coffee beans. The girls loved this one especially. They also have a nice selection of Japanese beers, I grew very fond of Yebisu while we were in Japan and it was good to taste it again.

Everyone was thoroughly impressed by all the food and the service. It is like a slice of Japan in Perth, including all the bowing and general friendliness. Well worth the visit.

We visited Ha Lu a few weeks ago and we loved it.. Went back a few times probably just for the duck with aubergines, the Kaku-Ni (pork belly) and the Nitsuke (Patagonian toothfish).. If you're a fan of sashimi you should not miss out as it was fresh as you can get at Ha Lu.. The tartare sashimi was also very very nice..

Also they have a huge selection of sake, japanese whiskey and beer..
