Perth Food Review

G ershwin's is the Hyatt hotels signature restaurant. We went there on Saturday night and enjoyed a fantastic meal. The menu is structured so that it is $62 for all three courses and you can't order al la carte. This might seem expensive but considering the quality of the dishes on offer I actually think it was fair.

For entree I had the tuna steak with sweet potato and wasabi mash which was a very generous serve and my partner had the margaret river marron on truffled mash. I think I got out ordered on first course the flavours were fantastic in the marron dish which made mine taste a little plain in comparison.

Main course was very difficult to choose. Included on the menu was a whole crayfish which was tempting but I decided on the venison loin wrapped in pancetta served with pumpkin gnocci and a good choice it was. The dish was perfect, it really could not have been improved on in any way. My partner ordered the roasted beef fillet which was served with a beef ravioli and jus also a good choice.

Desserts were lovely, but unfortunately we were probably too full to enjoy them properly. I ordered the white chocolate semifreddo and my partner the self saucing chocolate pudding. All the serves including the desserts are very generous!

The only thing that brought Gershwins score down was the service. It was hard to get anyone's attention (in particular our waitress who apart from running plates was almost never seen) and the wait for food and drinks was too long. It was an hour before we got out entrees and 40 minutes before we got our first drinks. I'm not sure if had we had a differest waiter or come on a different night if it would have been better. The atmosphere is excellent though, there was a live pianist playing and its generally very cosy. I would recommend Gershwins for a romantic night out!
