y family went to this restaurant last night becasue we had heard such great things about the sophisticated atmosphere with moder-rustic Italian food. What a disappointment.
The room was so dark and the writing on the menu and wine list so small that it was almost impossible to read. Just as well seeing as the wine prices were so inflated - and NO BYO. We chose something pleasant - a Sandalford shiraz for the princely sum of $51.00.
The kitchen made up plates of anti pasto at our request - it wasn't on the menu - $24.50 per plate for a small serving of olives, feta, sausage and artichoke. After that it just got worse. Entrees ranged from boring (stuffed artichokes at $20) to inedible (the octopus). Four out of eight of us weren't happy with our mains. The waitress who originally served us raved about a special of the day - roast piglet in a wood fired oven. Sounded yummy but unfortunately the three servings our table received were full of fat and gristle and little else and certainly not worth $34. The roast vegies we ordered for the table of eight consisted of one small cereal bowl of overcooked potato and pumpkin. Everything was overly salty.
When my brother complained about the quality of his meal the waitress seemed offended and asked if he wanted her to pass that on to the chef - why else did she think he was complaining? She also condescendingly explained that the vegies were meant to be served that way because they were cooked in the wood fired oven - can't they just cook them for less time so they are cooked properly?
The service overall was mostly pleasant, but inconsistent - e.g. we were asked by three staff members if everything was ok after the entree was served but couldn't find anyone when we wanted to order more wine. It also varied from obsequious to patronising.
There were some good things. A few of us had another special - quail stuffed with rabbit and mushrooms which, although salty like everything else, was tasty and interesting. We all also enjoyed our desserts.
The worst bit was the bill - $682.50 for eight people for a very ordinary meal and experience.
We won't be back.

| The food was fairly average for the price. For an entree, main and dessert - you're probably looking at around $40-$50. We started off with an antipasto plate (good for 2-3), it co...[more] |
