Perth Food Review

W e dined at E’cucina overlooking central park for lunch. The restaurant has an excellent atmosphere at lunch as it opens onto bustling pedestrian traffic and central park in the city.

The service was not particularly attentive and it seemed as though the wait staff may have been inexperienced, there were a couple of errors during our meal including - one person was not offered a drink when we arrived and our coffee order was muddled up. I also think it took too long for the table to be cleared after each course.

The food generally seemed good, we shared the tasting plate to start which had a nice selection including scallops, salmon gravalax, duck terrine, turkey and cranberry (very festive) and hummus of which the salmon was the star. I ordered the fish of the day for main course which was swordfish served with a witlof, date and tomato salad on a piece of roasted pumpkin. The swordfish was seasoned well and was very flavoursome however I don’t thing the dish hung together particularly well, there were too many competing flavours. The other dishes ordered including risotto, veal cutlet and lamb cultets (which were a special) all were very good according to the other diners.

For desert a friend and I shared the passionfruit pana cotta which was supposed to be served with vanilla ice-cream and glazed pineapple however the pineapple was missing. The pana cotta was nice however may have benefited from the pineapple?

I won’t race back to E’cucina, I don’t think the level of service warrants the price (average mains are $28 -$35) although it does have a great atmosphere for a weekday lunch.
