W e arrived at Bells on a perfect Sunday morning. It was about 40% occupied with five visible staff members. We ordered coffee and the transaction was handled efficiently. After waiting 20 minutes it was clear that many people had been waiting for service for some time. There was no obvious reason for this, since it was not busy and the staff were not visibly under pressure. After 45 minutes, one of our party enquired about the order status. The wait person said 'oh not again' and sifted through a moutain of dockets trying to locate the order. Another wait person (a supervisor or perhaps the owner) said 'sit down and we'll bring it out' in a very terse manner. Our party member asked whether she would like the order details again, since it seemed that the docket had been mislaid. The scowling supervisor raised her voice and asked her to 'sit down and wait' two more times. Several minutes later, the coffee arrived accomapnied by an angry wait person who sarcastically said 'thanks for your patience' before slamming the tray on the table. No apology, a clear inference that the order was never placed (even though we had been given a table number). This was witnessed by a dozen or so people (mainly tourists). Apalling service delivery angrily by demotivated staff.
