Perth Food Review

W e were staying overnight in the Hotel Northbridge to celebrate a special occasion. Included in the package was a 3 course meal at the 210 Restaurant.

The restaurant presents quite well, with white tablecloths and a piano player in the corner. There is a bar just next to the restaurant which provides a large selection of drinks. For entrée we tried the chicken and mushroom risotto and the calamari salad. The risotto was superb, the chicken was full of flavour and very tender, it had some kind of balsamic creation drizzled on top as well. The squid was equally as good, it came in a kind of warm Caesar salad, with pine nuts. The squid was amazingly tender, and the whole salad worked well together.

For main course I had the ginger sirloin with shitake mushrooms, potatoes, cabbage and bacon, in a sticky mushroom jus. At first the steak was quite overpowering with the ginger powder that was sprinkled on top. But after a few mouthfuls, and combining all the different ingredients on the plate, the steak was very tasty. Quite a good dish I thought, the way the chef had added an Asian influence to a typical Australian cut of meat. My partner had a grilled snapper fillet, with mash potato, vegies and béarnaise sauce. This was cooked perfectly and naturally all the ingredients combined well to make a very enjoyable dish.

Our waitperson suggested before the meal that if we were too full, she could bring the deserts up to our room later. We chose this option as we were both stuffed. Before the entrée we indulged in some rather heavy but tasty garlic Turkish bread. We also added a bottle of Vasse Felix desert wine to the list of things to bring up to our room. My partner loved her desert, whose description escapes me. I didn’t think my desert was much to rave about, but it was something to eat while enjoying a great bottle of desert wine.
