| 15-02-2011 : candy : Went to dinner with 15 girlfriends for my hen's, always wanted to try after hearing such good reviews and about their "famous garlic prawns". I'll never go there again, and would not recommend anyone else. The food was TERRIBLE. I ordered the fillet steak medium rare, it came out pretty much BLUE, with a handful of chips, my mum ordered the pepper steak medium, it came out dead, and it was supposed to have "seasoned veges" pfft, it came on some sloppy mash. A few ordered the parma, one said it tasted as though it had been frozen!!!! The meals are so small and it is NOT WORTH THE MONEY. The waitress was pretty sour. What a joke.
Also asked for the balcony seating, which we were supposed to have, didn't get that!!!!!!! :: [original context] |
| 06-11-2009 : djade : A girlfirend and I went to The Witch's Caudron the other day for lunch, we had both heard such good things about the place and were really looking forward to enjoying an afternoon with good food and service, a combination that is rare these days. What a dissappointment. Firstly we were seated at the table by a rude waitress and then left for 20 minutes before being offered a drink or even water. The entree, a tasting plate, was a confusing array of bites, I wasnt too sure what tasted worse, the frozen prawns coated in breadcrumbs and cooked in old oil (reminded me of the things fish and chip shops like to sell), or the attempted bit of curried chicken (beats me what curried chicken is doing on a tasting plate). There was no balance it just felt like the chef had thrown on whatever he could find festering in the back of the cool-room. The bread on the tasting plate was stale, and seemed to have been toasted the day before because it was soggy as well, and all this was garnished with a raw asparagus spear and a bunch of those nasty snow pea sprouts that take weeks to chew... classy.
We just assumed that the first course was a mistake and the main would be better, i have to say that we did eat the entree purely because we were so hungry after waiting so long to order and then waiting another 25 just to get the thing.
No service what-so-ever we had to ask for water and again the surly faced waitress served us with her charming attitude.
The main arrived after about half an hour, after the surly waitress was heard screaming for it, unprofessional to say the least.
My friend and I both ordered the Gabrielle, or a surf and turf as it is more commonly know. I had ordered medium rare, and she has ordered a rare steak. For $41 we expected a good steak, sadly yet another faliure on the chefs behalf. I havn't heard of roasted, breaded tomatoes being served in a restaurant since the 70's. The port gravy tated nothing like port, and had obviously been put together in a hasty manner, no taste, no seasoning. The mashed potato's had a skin on them, it reminded me of mashed potato that has been sitting around for a few hours, so unappealing. The prawns were some more of those charming frozen ones, with a watery texture, you could tell that they were poor quality. The prawns came both on top and stuffed in the steak, badly stuffed, i hope it was the apprentice that did it because for a qualified chef to stuff a steak that was would be a very sad thing indeed. My steak was came out well done. My friends prawns that were in her steak were cold. When this was told to surly waitress all we got was some muttering, a dirty look and a huff as she took our meals away. Someone else had to come up and apologise for the chef, too late the impression had set and i have to sa that we will never be going back there again. They didn't charge me for my meal, but still the meal came upto $100 just for an entree, one main and two drink. Expensive and dissapointing.

| 07-06-2006 : Ramon and Me : I agree in some senses that Witch's needs a decor revamp. However it is an "landmark" (in some senses) for Perth and I still find the garlic prawns to be amazing every time my husband and i go there. :: [original context] |
| 20-05-2006 : Lauren : I have eaten there a few times and neither myself or my companions have any complaints about the food - but I agree that it needs to modernise - and I think the service can be pretty shabby too. :: [original context] |
| 15-11-2005 : RvK : Went there with my family a few years back and was told that the food was absolutely wonderful by a friend. The service was exceptional but for what you pay and the quality of food you get, does not match at all. Quantity and quality was average and the price was on the expensive side. I've had better quality food from various tavern steakhouses. :: [original context] |
| 07-11-2005 : Tony : I would love to know what you ordered. The Majority of dishes I have sampled here have been outstanding. And why couldn't you finish it? :: [original context] |
