| The cutely named restaurant opened their doors on a Friday evening in May 2006 by a couple who's keen sense of hospitality is evident from the moment you enter as you are surprisingly greeted by comfy couches, a room filled with soft lighting and a hint of kitsch Mexican charm. The floor is a smooth operation with Natalie guiding customers through menu questions whilst the open kitchen is held in check by her partner (who's name I am yet to learn). They began developing their restaurant when the pair travelled to Mexico last year to partake in cooking classes, learning the dishes of the many regions of the country. They vow to make the trip an annual event, bringing home fresh ideas and new additions to the menu. To the customers' benefit, the classes have provided a foundation of authenticity to their dishes and also an abundence of knowledge on eating true Mexican as there is nary a hint of any Americano-Tex-Mex dishes prevelent. Do not be fooled by the discernable name as the food is true to its origins and the service is warm and helpful. The main menu is simple with vegetarian options and is supplemented by a daily special all of which are reasonably priced (entree $6-$12, mains $14-$21). It is BYO with corkage per head and finally you cannot avoid the chilli component which is served in various guises. Do ask for the chilli rating on dishes if you are sensitive to the heat. |
